NPR recently underwent a fairly hefty redesign of the npr.org website. The new site shifts the focus of NPR just just a radio news source to a more general news source. They new design and layout encourages reading and browsing across their three main topics, while even better highlighting and integrating the audio shows. Although I personally would have liked to see a new audio player that’s a bit more integrated with the site, rather than popping out into a new window. I wonder if options like the facebook chat drawer were looked at.
The site still sticks to their primary expertise of news, ‘art and life’, and music. Read more about the new website here in a special note from the editor.
It seems literally within the last couple hours, the iPhone application went live; NPR’s first official iphone app. Like the website, the application really seems to succeed well at bubbling the wealth of content they have up to the surface, while in parallel providing their amazing audio content as free streams. All their programs can be streamed from the app and listened to as you move about other sections. If you prefer you may use the link to the podcast on iTunes.
