Where do you get your ideas?

This is the question posed and answered by The Economist with this micro-site. In the course of interacting with thinkingspace.economist.com, you’ll get to explore the personal spaces of 9 successful and intelligent people such as musicians, designers, writers, CEOs, and others. One of the more interesting features of the site is the use of 3D with photos.

Each of the 9 spaces has been cut apart and tiled onto 3D cubes; all of which are grouped and joined together in a formation that when positioned correctly, will reveal the original photograph of the scene. From there you may freely explore various objects in the scene to the tune of a nice narration by the example subject, and detail photographs. More background information about the person is available, along with favorite links, music, and of course favorite sections of the Economist.

The overall design is well done, very crisp with lots of nice grid lines, and of course a nice dabbling of red throughout. Responsive and obvious interactive details make for a very enjoyable experience.
Take a browse of the site and perhaps even submit your own thinking space. Perhaps it’ll get featured in a future update of thinkingspace.economist.com.
