Isolation Unit | Teruhiro Yanagihara

This flash site for Teruhiro Yanagihara has some unique and intelligent use of columns. It’s able to detect the browser size and make a decision on how many columns to use, and scales column widths accordingly to always keep margins the same, and everything looking tidy.

Another interesting feature: the in-page scrolling seems to make sure that no matter how long each column ends up, as you scroll to the bottom, all columns end up aligning on the bottom edge. To achieve this, each column scrolls at a different speed based on its length.

I’m not necessarily sold on the user friendliness of this, but designers will certainly take note of the attention to detail when scaling the browser to all sorts of sizes.
