Hornall Anderson

Hornall Anderson, a Seattle based design studio, launched a new company website this year that uses only the best attributes of the web and flash. Robust tagging, search, clear navigation, constructive transitions, and blog integration combine in a site that is a joy to use.

The homepage presents just three recent projects, and three recent blog entries. Thanks to a fully integrated tagging system, the visitor can navigate the site by moving from project to related project or even a related blog post. Outside of including a blog with contributions from everyone in the company, the entire site is based very much on a blog structure although it hides this well. Searching is done by simply tapping on the keyboard anytime. In this way most the site can be accessed entirely from the keyboard. Traditional page based structure has been abandoned for an approach where work can be found from multiple entry points. There are small but much appreciated details as well – even though the site is built with flash transitions are not overdone and the scroll wheel still functions when needed.

The Hornall Anderson website succeeds in presenting the work with clarity and honesty, telling the story of what the company does for it’s clients, and reinventing its presentation for the web to take advantage of the webs best characteristics.
